; The Dorking Halls was built to house the Festival and opened in 1931; 'Song for a Spring Festival', written by RVW to celebrate the Festival's 50th year, may only be performed at the Festival; RVW retired as Festival Conductor in 1953, but continued to conduct the St Matthew Passion until 1958; Whilst living in Dorking, RVW composed works including Serenade to Music, Symphonies 4 - 7 and The Pilgrim's Progress; RVW conducted the first combined choirs concert at the Festival on 10 May 1905; The first competition day at the Festival exclusively for children was held in 1921; In 1934 the BBC broadcast part of the Festival performance of Dream of Gerontius; The first Festival performance of the St Matthew Passion in 1931 had 800 singers;

to celebrate and raise funds for Leith Hill Musical Festival

Special guest: Diana Moore, mezzo-soprano and a favourite soloist at the Festival, who sang so superbly for us in 'The Kingdom' this year, will be entertaining us on this special night.


There will be room for only 80 other guests  for this fun evening at The Barn Hall, Church Road, Bookham where, for £30 and smart dress, you will receive:

  • prosecco (or a non-alcoholic alternative) and canapes

  • 2-course supper (special diets catered for)

  • coffee

AND the unique opportunity of taking part in our 'Silent Auction'

There will also be a pay bar and a table raffle


  • Master of Ceremonies Ges Ray - our ebullient Vice-Chairman 

  • Viewing of auction items during reception, when you will be allocated your own confidential bidding number

  • Helen Mardell, our Fundraising Coordinator, has already been promised some fabulous prizes, but if you have something to offer, please email her on fundraising@lhmf.org.uk

  • we hope that everyone will bring something to add to the auction on the night


  • throughout the evening you can write your number and bid (in silence) on cards next to each item you are interested in - there will be many

  • you can return at any time to see what other bids have been made and raise yours

  • Ges will call a halt at a pre-ordained moment and the lucky winners will be revealed


  • one week for four at a holiday home in Treguier, North Brittany [There's a password on the 'House' tab on the website to see details - type in Kercoz22220 then hit enter]
  • one week for four at a holiday home in Dorset (Midhaven Cottage) (dogs welcome with careful owners!)
  • sailing day trip for two on a 35ft yacht from Gosport to Cowes and back, including lunch at The Coast Bar
