; The Dorking Halls was built to house the Festival and opened in 1931; 'Song for a Spring Festival', written by RVW to celebrate the Festival's 50th year, may only be performed at the Festival; RVW retired as Festival Conductor in 1953, but continued to conduct the St Matthew Passion until 1958; Whilst living in Dorking, RVW composed works including Serenade to Music, Symphonies 4 - 7 and The Pilgrim's Progress; RVW conducted the first combined choirs concert at the Festival on 10 May 1905; The first competition day at the Festival exclusively for children was held in 1921; In 1934 the BBC broadcast part of the Festival performance of Dream of Gerontius; The first Festival performance of the St Matthew Passion in 1931 had 800 singers;

Leith Hill Musical Festival Young Voices

Urgently needed

Ten – seventeen year olds who love to sing and would like to be a member of this new exciting choir.

The LHMF Young Voices will make their debut on Saturday 14th April 2018 at the Dorking Halls. They will sing “Mass of the Children” by John Rutter and will be supported by Capel, Epsom, Oxshott and Shalford Choral Societies. There will be soloists, the Southern Pro Musica Orchestra and it will all be conducted by Jonathan Willcocks.

If you know of any young voices, ie your own children, grandchildren or friend’s children who would love this opportunity, or if you are such a young person, please read on:-

The amazing conductor who will teach you the music is Christopher Wray. He conducts both adult and children’s choirs and is really looking forward to meeting our Young Voices.

Rehearsals will be held on Monday 12th February and Tuesday 13th February at The Priory School, West Bank, Dorking, RH4 3DG from 9.15 – 4.30pm. There will be three further rehearsals, Sunday 25th February, Sunday 11th March and Sunday 25th March. These will be 2.30 – 4.00pm and the venue will be confirmed in due course.

You will need to bring your own packed lunch on the two full days but drinks and biscuits will be provided. In order to confirm your place you will be asked to bring £10.00 with you to the first rehearsal. This will help us to pay for the hire of the music.

Please complete the registration form and return it via email to barbarachristopher1951@gmail.com or print it off and post it to LHMF Young Voices, Cotswolds, Martineau Drive, Dorking, RH4 2PN. If you are joining with the help of your teacher at school then completed registration forms can be returned to your school office and will be collected from there. As you will need the permission and signature of parent or carer you will be asked to bring another copy of the form with you to the first rehearsal.
